The following learning options are intended to provide some examples of the variety of ways in which you may wish to learn more about a specific skill area. However, these are by no means exhaustive and other learning options may well be more appropriate to your situation.

We have also suggested a variety of providers who deliver the learning options that we have outlined, but again this list provides only a sample of the provision and there are other sources of provision that you may wish to consider.

Internal providers:

  • Equality & Diversity: The University is committed in its pursuit of academic excellence to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. A range of resources are available to support staff in meeting this commitment.
  • Libraries@cam offer many development opportunities for library staff
  • Cambridge Library Group host talks and events that offer a useful development opportunity
  • Attendance at the Annual Conference for Librarians also offers the chance to learn from others experiences and share information and knowledge
  • Other occasional events such as brown bag lunches focused on specific topics of particular interest to library staff are organised by colleagues from across the library community and are advertised via the email lists that as a member of library staff you may subscribe to

External providers:

  • Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) offer onsite training courses, so if you and some colleagues from other departments or faculties have a shared interested in developing in a particular skill area it is worthwhile contacting CILIP to see what bespoke provision they are able to deliver and to share the cost of the provision across the group.
  • CILIP have within their membership specialist groups e.g. Education Librarians Group, Career Development Group, who sometimes provide training in a specific skill area
