The key purpose of the Senior Leadership Programme L3 is to develop senior leadership capacity (eg PVC, Head of School) within the University to ensure we have individuals who are skilled and prepared to take on these senior roles in the future.  See our Leadership Development Framework which contextualises where the SLP Level 3 fits within the continuum of leadership development provision offered by the University.

The target group for the Senior Leadership Programme L3 comprises those who are aspiring to a senior leadership role within the University and who hold (or have held) a Head of Institution role or equivalent, within the last 10 years. In addition, participants will be committed to their own development (including being open to receiving feedback and to working with an executive coach) and be willing to contribute to the evaluation of the programme in terms of its value to them.

The programme is delivered over a 12-14 month period and has the following structure:

Initial diagnostic phase

An initial period of self-assessment using a number of diagnostic support tools that will help participants identify their relative leadership strengths and development areas. This part of the process will result in a Personal Development Plan.

Coaching phase

Each participant will receive 6 x one-to-one confidential coaching sessions of approximately 2 hours each.

Peer Learning Group

Participants will also work together in a Peer Learning Group – supporting each other’s development and working on issues together.

Impact day

The process will close with an Impact Day where you will be able to work with other participants to evaluate the impact of the support you have received and to action plan for the future.

Due to the individualised nature of this programme, there are 6 places available per year.  The programme is underpinned by the Cambridge Leadership Attributes Framework.

Nomination to this programme is sought in December each year via Heads of School and the Registrary.
