Personal and Professional Development

To help you assess where you are in your career it's useful to identify:

  • what you value in your work
  • what your skills, strengths and attributes are
  • what you are particularly knowledgeable/experienced in
  • what are your achievements to date and what motivates you

Tips and tools

Other helpful questions to ask yourself

What motivates me?  What doesn’t motivate me?

We all need to feel motivated in the work we do.  If we are not motivated there is a risk that we will not realise our full potential.  Equally, identifying what you find de-motivating can help you eliminate certain job options during the job seeking process.

  • What aspects of my work am I particularly good at?
  • What aspects of my work do I particularly enjoy the most?
  • What aspects of my work do I enjoy the least?
  • What appealed to me about the job description for my current position?

The answers to these questions may help you to identify what you value in your current role and what you would like to have in your future role.
